Planting & Care
SunLight: Almond trees need plenty of full suns, at least 6 hours a day
Soil: Plant almond trees in well-draining soil with at least 5 feet of topsoil.
Watering: Provide for adequate, regular watering, flood the tree with water once per week during the first year after planting.
Fertilizer: Add a 3- to 6-inch layer of mulch in a 3-foot radius around the tree to keep the ground free of vegetation that would compete with the tree for nutrients. Fertilize twice a year in the spring, before new growth appears, with 1 cup of 10-10-10 fertilizer
Temperature: The tree should get between 300 and 400 hours each year of temperatures that are lower than 45 °F.
Pruning: Prune the tree each year in late winter when it is dormant. Remove dead limbs anytime throughout the year. Thin out branches that cross over other branches.
