MUHLENBERGIA CAPILLARIS

Muhlenbergia

Muhlenbergia capillaris is a perennial ornamental grass plant in the Poaceae family. It is a popular choice for late-season color and works well in a landscape where fading summer annuals are growing, also known as Pink Muhly Grass. This plant has erect dark green foliage until September and starts forming spectacular pink seed heads creating a cotton candy crown. 

Planting & Care 

Sunlight: Full sun is best for muhly grass, but some shade is fine, especially in warmer climates

Water: Water your newly planted grass well. Keep it moist for at least the first month. 

Soil: This hardy ornamental grass tolerates any soil that drains well.

Fertilizer: Feed your Pink Muhly Grass a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring. 

Temperature: It will start wilting once the temperature starts dropping and will start flourishing with the arrival of warm weather.

Pruning: Trimming your grass back close to the ground can be done anytime after the grass browns, but we recommend pruning back in late winter or early spring to enjoy the winter interest this pretty plant provides.
